Foundation Mechanics assisted in the partial demolition, reconstruction, and conversion of Plaza 47 to AET. The project involved the removal of existing structures to make room for improvements to drainage, electrical infrastructure, pavements, and barrier walls. Foundations were drilled through bedrock to accommodate new monotube structures supporting updated IPass readers in both directions.
This was the second-ever Illinois Tollway project in which a precast concrete control building was fabricated and installed. FM assisted with the details of this process, many of which have since become the standard for this building’s fabrication for all future ISTHA projects.
In addition to our contributions related to concrete control building installation, FM is assisting the Tollway in becoming the first plaza systemwide to implement and test new LiDAR traffic monitoring systems. This technology will help upgrade and modernize toll collection and roadway monitoring.
